  • Candidates of the Master's degree in Marine Ecology must have successfully completed their studies in areas related to the postgraduate program, including biology, marine biology, oceanography, ecology, conservation or other bachelor whose academic background includes expertise in biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics that will allow the student to successfully assimilate the content of the graduate program.

    The applicant must have good capacity for individual and teamwork, both supervised and independent, as well as techniques and effective study habits. The applicant also must show interest and remarkable vocation for marine ecosystem, and enthusiasm for scientific research, in addition to possessing the following attributes and skills:
    1) Capacity of observation,
    2)Ability to analyze and synthesize,
    3) Experimental or theoretical scientific creativity,
    4)Open attitude to knowledge
    5) Moral and ethical values and
    6) Possess initiative and interest in exploring scientific knowledge.

    Applicant is also expected to have a good English level that allows him to understand and analyze scientific literature.

Graduate Profile

  • The graduate of this master will have the knowledge and skills to solve problems related to marine sciences at spatial, temporal and biological organization levels (from molecular to ecosystem).Our consolidated oceanographic and academic training will allow the graduate to pose relevant research, as well as to collect, analyze and interpret physical, chemical and biological scientific information for the study of ocean and coastal ecosystems.

    The graduate will have the skills to communicate scientific findings in written and oral form and work with multidisciplinary teams. The graduate will possesses the training required for the formation of human resources at the levels of bachelor and master. The graduate will have relevant academic training to join the labor market (government agencies, research centers, institutions of middle and higher education, NGOs, private sector, social sector, self-employment) or continue his academic education with doctoral studies.


Ph.D.

Admission Profile

  • Applicants to this Ph.D. must have a Master's degree in an area of knowledge related to the graduate program (Master of Science).The applicant must have general knowledge in biological sciences, be an expert in his specialty area, must show interest and remarkable dedication to the marine ecosystem, have laboratory and field technical skills, analytical and creative skills as well as a vocation for scientific and technological research applied to solve relevant issues. The applicant must be competent in the design and development of basic and applied investigation projects in areas of original knowledge, as well as the particular knowledge associated with the border region where CICESE is located. Also, the applicant must have high ethical standards and values.

    Applicant is also expected to have a good English level that allows him to understand and analyze scientific literature.

Graduate Profile

  • The graduate of this doctoral program may independently identify relevant scientific problems in the field of his competence, raise genuine and major scientific questions and design, manage and implement research projects to solve these problems, generating new knowledge and technologies.

    The graduate will have a multidisciplinary analytical and critical approach to scientific information, as well as high standards of ethics and scientific conduct.

    The graduate will be able to formally convey to his peers the findings of his research in written and oral form, to disclose them to the general public, and to form high-level human resources. His strong academic background will allow him to perform in the public or private sector in institutions such as universities, research centers, government agencies, private industry, consulting or the free exercise of his profession in the country or abroad.
