Objectives of the Master's Degree


  • The main objective of this program is to train specialists in optics that can work in high quality research institutes, as university professors or within a research group in the industry. The other objective of the master is to promote students’ collaboration and contribution to the generation of knowledge, strengthening the lines of research of the department, resulting in the production of scientific research articles and release of scientific knowledge, patents and presentations at national and international conferences.

    The goals associated with the Master's program are:
    • That the student acquires a minimum of general knowledge of optics. To this end, the student should take a set of courses, which are mainly mandatory. Students will also gain knowledge related to his thesis topic through specialized courses.

    • That the student develops the capacity to delve into a topic of his choice in optics and be able to identify a problem in which, through his solution, he can receive training in the scientific method.

    • That the student is able to propose a suitable methodology to solve the problem he chose, by presenting a detailed document of the research he envisages.

    • That the student develops self-discipline, initiative, perseverance, spirit of cooperation and dedication necessary to achieve the desired results within a reasonable time.

    • That the student develops the necessary skills to release the results of his research to the scientific community. To this end he will give talks and seminars, as well as attend specialized congresses and present his findings, and will write a thesis and defend it in front of a committee. In exceptional cases, the student can have the opportunity to publish a supervised article in a renowned specialist journal.

    • That the student acquires the academic background and motivation so that once graduated he can continue his preparation through doctoral studies, work or train in research in Mexico or overseas. In particular, those students with potential, dedicated and assertive will have the appropriate level to easily continue their doctoral studies in optics in any prestigious university in the world.

    • To encourage graduates to succeed in developing themselves in this area through postdoctoral studies or research work, both in the country and overseas.
