The program of the Ph.D. in Life Sciences integrates the diverse areas of both basic and applied biology that are studied and practiced by involved researchers in the areas of Microbiology, Marine Biotechnology and Environmental Biology. This Ph.D. aims to carry out a broad spectrum of research in biological issues of different kinds (basic biology, ecology, agriculture, industry, medicine) of regional relevance. One of the missions of this postgraduate is to train human resources able to solve pressing biological problems. The imminence of global warming, emerging diseases, extinction of species, reduction of natural habitats, the use of marine and terrestrial resources, are making necessary the training of professionals able to face and solve these problems with a solid scientific background.

Students will receive an education that will allow them to understand research problems at different levels of organization, so that they can establish adequate and comprehensive solutions. This program will not only emphasize learning methodologies for the generation of knowledge, but also a critical analysis of that knowledge. This is achieved through a structure of open teaching, combined with seminars where students’ intellectual development will be strengthen and where the progress in different specialties and lines of research is discussed. It aims to promote interdisciplinary training and facilitate innovative program of studies.
