The Seismology department has three permanent seismic networks: 1.- Red Sísmica del Noroeste de México (RESNOM) that keeps a continuous monitoring os seismic events on the northern part of Baja California; 2.- La Red Sísmica de Banda-Ancha (RESBAN), which monitors seismic activity over the Gulf of California, and 3.- La Red Acelerométrica del Noroeste de México (RANM), deployed over the north of Baja California. This, plus an accelerographs network for monitoring the Central Command Post of Mexico city metropolitan subway (PCC1) in Mexico city and another network for monitoring deformations of the Earth’s crust over the Mexicali valley (REDECVAM).

The available infrastructure for scientific investigations includes a great variety of measurement instruments to set up temporal seismic networks, an ample set of computational resources for data processing and analysis, as well as instrumentation laboratories
